African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil

A few weeks ago I was send a bottle of the African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil from Beauty Bulletin to try out and review.

Firstly I am going to give you a lowdown on the African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil and then I will tackle my journey using the product and let you know how it went.

About African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil

You can buy the African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil from Dis-Chem for just R180.99.

The new African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil is a non-greasy treatment oil that aims to help reduce the appearance of dark spots while protecting your skin against environmental damage.

The facial oil is 100% naturally derived, and includes a number of powerful antioxidants, including: Bio-Active Rooibos, Vitamin C and Vitamin E, Jojoba Oil and essential oils of Geranium, Rose, Lavender and Neem.

How to use: Apply 2-3 drops to clean skin before your day cream or night cream.

My first impressions

African Extracts always blows me away with their gorgeous packaging, and the African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil was the same.

It came in a beautiful red, shiny box that gave the product a sense of luxury before even opening it. Once opened, however, the sense of luxury continued, as buyers are greeted with a gorgeous glass bottle with gold lid and other touches.

The lid mechanism is my favourite part of the bottle, as when you turn the lid a tiny see through button appears. This little button is part of a pipette that allows you to suck up the oil and dispense as much as you need – in a very controlled manner – on to your fingers.

My African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil journey

As you can see from my before picture below, I had a few dark spots around my jawline and chin, and my left cheek under my eye had a very dark red patch (my right eye was not as bad, although there was a slightly lighter red patch there, too).

I have had these red patches under my eyes for as long as I can remember, and they have always bothered me to a certain degree, but I tried to not let them make me feel bad about my skin.

The dark patches started to appear over the last few years and they did not bother me as much because they were not easy to see (because they were along my jawline and chin). But of course, if the facial oil helped them fade, it would be amazing.

How I applied the facial oil

I have combination skin, which means that some areas of my face (t-zone especially) are oily, while others are dry. Because I have a few oily patches, I knew that I would need to avoid applying the facial oil to those specific areas to avoid them becoming even more oily.

I decided to use the facial oil at night, and fit it in to my face routine seamlessly. I chose to use it at night because I felt that the oil would have a better chance to soak in, and less chance of my face being shiny throughout the day – and I was right.
Additionally I chose to apply to oil straight to my skin by itself (not mixing it in with my moisturiser) after toning and cleansing and before moisturising). This gave me more control over where the facial oil would be applied (missing out my oily zones) as well as give it time to work in its pure form. I would then let it soak in and do its magic before applying my moisturiser.
Here is a break down, week-by-week, where I go more indepth over my three week journey using the African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil:

Week one

When the African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil hit my desk I was blown away. The first thing I noticed was it’s beautiful packaging. The gorgeous red and gold box it comes in exudes luxury before you have even opened the box! Once opened, it only got better, as you are presented with a gorgeous glass bottle filled with the silky oil and topped off with a gold lid. Wow!

The African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil bottle is absolutely stunning, and its functionality is amazing. To open the bottle you have to unscrew the lid – which enables the little see-through piece in the middle to pop up, which is then used as a little pipette to help you control the amount of product you want to dispense and use. So convenient! Love this attention to detail.

As you will see from my before image, (the one above) I have some dark spots and a red patch under my right eye. The red patch has since lightened – even if just slightly – over the last week alone, which I am so excited about.

I have also decided to only use a small amount of product, and to use it only where it is needed and to avoid my oily zones. This is working out very well so far.

I will keep you updated throughout my African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil journey so stay tuned!

Week two

It has now been two weeks since I started using the African Extracts Rooibos Advantage Daily Repair Facial Oil, and so far I am very impressed. I have combination skin with areas that are really dry and other areas that are quite oily so I have to be careful where I put it. However, it’s fitted in to my skincare routine really well.

I tend to add the oil to the areas I want it to concentrate on – my dark spots, where my skin tone is uneven and to the dry patches – and then once it has soaked in (I leave it about 5-minutes) I then put my moisturiser over it. I did try added it to my entire face once, but even a small amount made my oily areas even more oily, so I decided it was best to concentrate on the areas that needed it most instead.

Additionally, I only use it in the evenings so that my face does not have that extra shine that an oil gives you throughout the day, and so that I do not apply makeup over it and prevent the oil from working its magic. This also allows the oil to work and di its job without foundation and powder caked on top of it. (Also, powder tends to soak up the moisture of the oil, leaving you with even more uneven patches. I have tried and tested it with make up and it did not work for me).

Overall I love the effect the oil has had on my skin so far. When I wake up in the morning I have realised that my skin is a lot less dry, is brighter and has a lot more life in it. I have also noticed that my dark patches, red patches and even some of my scarring has lightened. This gives me hope that they will continue to fade as I continue to use the product.

Week three

You can hear all about my third week using this amazing facial oil below in my very first video review:

Disclaimer: I had to film this 100+ times because I was so anxious and kept getting tongue-tied and it was a very daunting task! But I overcame it so please be gentle with me. It’s not great, but I did it! I’m not a natural in front of the camera, but I did it.

Final thoughts: would I recommend it and will I continue using it?

I love this product and have already recommended it to so many of my friends and family – with my mum already asking where she can get some when she come to visit next month.

For R180 it’s a bargain, and I know mine is going to last a really long time, making it an affordable product that you won’t need to replace often.

I am going to continue to use it because I like the results I have experienced so far. And I really think it has benefitted my skin overall, keeping it fresh and hydrated – which it really needs with the seasons changing.

If you want to buy your own bottle of this magic facial oil, you can! Get it at Dis-chem today and start your journey to clearer, healthier  and hydrated skin.

Wow! I can believe that – I am an obsessive rooibos tea-drinker and cannot understand when people tell me they do not drink rooibos or haven’t heard of it! Rooibos Tea does wonders for the body inside and makes one feel good, so I can only imagine the effects it has when applied on the skin as well!
