Dying my eyebrows is one of my favourite beauty-related regimes. Mostly because I have thick eyebrows that I can experiment with.
My eyebrows are the one thing I have left as natural as possible. By this I mean, well, I neglected them instead of waxing them to an inch of their life, which is why they are still thick and bushy. And I am kind of glad I did because I see so many people struggle with their brows being so thin.
Being so bonkers about my brows, when I was approached to try out RefectoCil’s new sensitive range, I jumped at the opportunity.
Bearing in mind I had never dyed my brows myself (thanks to my gorgeous beautician of a sister), I was excited (and a little nervous at the same time) to give it a go.

Colour match chart
The following illustrations show you at a glance which tints match each type of colouring and the colour results which can be achieved using the RefectoCil colours, depending on the natural hair colour.
The darker the natural hair is, the darker the result will be. The wide range of RefectoCil colours is made up of 8 different colours, enabling individual and professional colour results to be achieved.
To see the individual information regarding each of the individual colours, see the breakdown on their website.
I chose to try out their Dark Brown shade, as I am a brunette and have moderately dark brows already.
Like I explained above, I have never dyed my eyebrows myself before, however, after reading the instructions (that are clear and straightforward, hurrah), I knew exactly what I needed to do.
First I had to apply the eyelash and eyebrow tint with the white application tool. The application tool is just a little stick that is narrow at the end and I was worried it would not apply the product very well, but it did. It coated all of my eyebrow hairs completely, ensuring not a single stand was left out.
The eyebrow and eyelash tint has to stay put for two minutes. I timed this with my phone timer. Once the two minutes is up, I had to then wipe away the eyebrow and eyelash tint with a dry cotton bud.
Next up, the developer gel. This comes with its own application tool, a grey stick that is (kind of) like a spooly at the end. The rough, bristle-like end helps you apply the developer gel consistently and, again, helps ensure you coat all of your eyebrow or eyelash hairs.
The developer gel needs to stay on for one minute and develops instantly when you apply it to your brows. You will see the development immediately, as it darkens and thickens.
Once the one minute is up, remove with a dampened cotton ball or pad with your eyes closed (as you don’t want any of the dye to get in your eyes).
Once removed, you will see a huge difference. You can see my one-brow transformation in the image below:
As you can see, my left brow is much darker than the one on the right, and it only took me 5 minutes!
I did this process twice, as I like really dark brows, and the second application made an even bigger difference, and I love the outcome.
It’s definitely a product I see myself using longterm. Because the outcome was so good, the product was so easy to use and I never had any reaction to the new sensitive formula.
I have already recommended it to my sister, who is a beautician, and a few of my friends who have never heard of it before, and I hope to hear their experiences with the product soon, too.
- You can use vaseline to protect the skin around your eyebrow hairs from getting tint on them. It could also help you shape your brows easier. ensuring you do not tint the small hairs around them.
- Tinting your eyelashes can be tricky. If you do not feel comfortable tinting your own eyelashes, have someone help you.
- Tint your eyebrows before waxing them. This will ensure that dye does not seep into your open pores.
