Shiny, healthy hair with Redken

A while back I was lucky enough to attend the launch of Tease Hair and Beauty, a trendy new salon located in Sea Point.

Apart from getting to see the space first, snack on some delish sushi and hear all about the amazing products and service they offer their clients, everyone who attended was given a goodie bag containing, well, amazing goodies.

One of which included sample bottles of Redken shampoo and conditioner. Mine was a gorgeous pair of gold bottles of Redken All Soft, which contains argon oil and says it’s for dry/brittle hair.

As I had not used Redken before, I didn’t quite know what results to expect when using it. I had heard so many good things about the brand, but it was out of my price range so I never had the chance to try it out.

Overall, my hair is really healthy. I have not dyed it for a number of years now, I heat treat it only when needed (the last time was at my wedding in October when it was blowdried), I get regular haircuts thanks to my beautiful wife and I look after it as well as I can.

However, there are days where it is limp and lifeless and, with this hot weather, dry and sad, too. These are the issues I am hoping the Redken testers would sort out after emptying them.

However, these gorgeous little bottles gave me the perfect opportunity to lather it up in the shower and see Redken work its magic first hand. So what happened?

My Redken experience

The first two things I realised when I opened the bottle and squeezed a smidgen of shampoo onto my hand were the beautiful (almost coconut-like) smell and the consistency of the liquid – it was thick, smooth and so soft.

After shampooing my hair, I decided to give the conditioner a shot, too. Usually, I don’t condition my hair at all because otherwise I wake up the next day and it’s already oily. But I thought it was only fair to give them both a shot.

I conditioned just the bottom half of my hair (avoiding the roots at all costs), left it in for about five minutes and then rinsed it out. Once done, I threw it up in a towel for about half an hour and went to bed, letting it dry overnight naturally.

When I woke up I was pleasantly surprised. My hair was a little shinier than usual and it felt a little different, too, even after just one wash.

Although the changes were not huge, there was something different about my head of hair that I liked, and I can only explain it as having a little more ‘life’ than it did the day before.

Over the next couple of weeks, I used the samples religiously and, over that time, I did see a further improvement and a little more ‘life’ being injected into my hair, with the improvement I liked the most being how shiny it was.

The improvement was obviously better than I expected, as a few friends asked me on a couple of different occasions if I had gone to have a treatment done, or if I had changed products, which only further ? the results I saw and felt.

I do, however, think that the results were not as big and magical as I expected. I think this is because I have heard so much about the brand and have a couple of friends who use nothing else but Redken.

This is not to say that I am not impressed with the changes to my hair so far, and it could be because I have only just started using the product over the last few weeks.

A lot of products require you to use them for a few months in order to start seeing those magical results you see and hear about, which is fair and completely understandable.

Nothing happens overnight and I was probably just overexcited about finally having the opportunity to try out the product in all its glory.

Once my tiny little bottles are finished though, I will be purchasing my very own full-sized bottles so that I can continue my hair journey with Redken and see further improvements to my mane.

Thanks to Redken and Tease Hair and Beauty for the opportunity to try out these amazing products.
